Every family deserves to be beautifully seen and celebrated just as they are. As a photographer, some of my most meaningful sessions have been with families who include a child, teen, or adult with special needs. These sessions are full of love, resilience, joy—and often, a little extra flexibility. And they always remind me of the beauty in the present moment.

Whether your child has sensory sensitivities, uses mobility equipment, or just needs a slower-paced session, I’m here to meet you with empathy, patience, and intention. I want your family to feel at ease, supported, and celebrated.

why these sessions matter

I truly believe photography is for every family. That includes families who may not always feel seen in traditional photo settings. It’s my job (and my joy) to create a space where everyone is comfortable enough to be themselves—and where you walk away with photos that reflect the genuine love and connection you share.

Tips for a Smooth, Joyful Session

Here are a few things I do—and some tips for parents—to help make the experience successful and stress-free:

1. Share Anything You’d Like Me to Know Ahead of Time

When you book, feel free to tell me anything that would help me serve your family well. That might include diagnoses, sensory preferences, behavioral patterns, or even just what your child loves and doesn’t love. This helps me come into your session with the right tools, tone, and mindset.

2. Timing Matters

Let’s choose a time of day when your child is typically at their best. That might mean we avoid late evenings or work around nap/therapy schedules. I’m flexible—and happy to adjust to what works for your family.

3. Keep Expectations Light

Some of the most heartfelt, beautiful images come from unplanned moments—a soft hug, a glance, a laugh. Your session doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s. My goal is connection over perfection.

4. Bring Comfort Items or Support Tools

Weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, fidget toys, favorite snacks—bring whatever helps your loved one feel regulated and secure. I’ve worked with children in wheelchairs, with G-tubes, with Every family deserves to be beautifully seen and celebrated just as they are. 5. Let’s Go with the Flow

Sometimes we need breaks, sometimes we shift gears mid-session—and that’s okay. I plan every session with enough buffer time to slow down when we need to. There’s never any pressure to “perform.”

my promise to you

I’m not here to force a perfect picture. I’m here to witness and honor your real, beautiful life—exactly as it is.

If you have a family member with special needs and have ever felt hesitant to book a photo session, I’d love to invite you to take that step. We’ll create something honest, joyful, and full of love—because your story deserves to be documented too.
